Frequently Asked Questions

We are the privileged partners of Signia and Siemens Brand in Kerala. Check out the most common questions our customers tend to ask us about hearing aids

Most of the time hearing problems begin gradually without discomfort or pain. What’s more, family members often learn to adapt to someone’s hearing loss without even realizing they are doing it. Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine whether you have hearing loss.

1. Do I / they often ask people to repeat themselves?
2. Do I / they have trouble following conversations with more than two people?
3. Do I / they have difficulty hearing what is said unless facing the speaker?
4. Do I / they struggle to hear in crowded places like restaurants, malls and meeting rooms?
5. Do I / they have a hard time hearing women or children?
6. Do I / they prefer the TV or radio volume louder than others?
7. Do I / they experience ringing or buzzing in my ears?
8. Does it sound like other people are mumbling or slurring their words?

If you answered yes to several of these questions, chances are you suffer from hearing loss. If you are curious to find out about your hearing or want a baseline measurement, book an appointment with us for a hearing test and consultation.

Causes of conductive hearing loss are typically “obstructions” such as:

1. Infections of the ear canal or middle ear resulting in fluid or pus buildup
2. Perforation or scarring of the eardrum
3. Wax buildup
4. Dislocation of the middle ear bones (ossicles)
5. Foreign object in the ear canal Otosclerosis (an abnormal bone growth in the middle ear)
6. Abnormal growths or tumors

Hearing loss can occur at any time, at any age. In fact, most people with hearing loss (65%) are younger than age 65! There are 60 million people in the India ages 18-44 with hearing
loss, and around 15.75 million are school age (5-18 Years)

While today’s hearing aids are more advanced than ever before, they are actually easier to use. They can be programmed to your hearing preferences for different environments and will automatically adjust, so you can move from one environment to another without manually changing your settings. Whether you’re in a large group, an intimate conversation, or an outdoor setting, you’re appropriately tuned in.

Each type of hearing loss may have several different causes. Exposure to loud noise is a common cause of both hearing loss and tinnitus. Infections are also a common cause, as are birth defects, genetics and reaction to drugs, especially chemotherapy or drugs used for cancer treatment. Here are the different causes of each type of hearing loss. Causes of sensorineural hearing loss:

1. Aging or Injury
2. Excessive noise exposure
3. Viral infections (such as measles or mumps)
4. Ototoxic drugs (medications that damage hearing)
5. Shingles, Meningitis, Diabetes, Obesity or Stroke
6. High fever or elevated body temperature
7. Ménière’s disease (disorder of the inner ear affecting hearing and balance)
8. Acoustic tumors
9. Hereditary Condition or Hypertension
10. Smoking

Hearing aids are basically microphones that convert sound into electrical signals. It makes some sounds louder so that a person with hearing loss can listen, communicate, and participate more fully in daily activities. A typical hearing aid has three basic parts: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The hearing aid receives sound through a microphone, which converts the sound waves to electrical signals and sends them to an amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the signals and then sends them to the ear through a speaker.

While you are no doubt concerned about appearance, compensating for a hearing loss by asking people to repeat themselves, inappropriately responding to people (or not responding at all), or even withdrawing from social situations is more obvious than wearing a hearing aid. Today’s hearing aids are small, discreet and more stylish than ever. Some are even invisible. And, chances are that once you have a hearing aid, your quality of life will improve so much that cosmetics won’t be as much of an issue for you. While hearing aids have helped millions of people around the world improve their hearing experience and quality of life, there are still some misconceptions about them. Don’t let these common myths keep you or someone you care about from getting help to overcome hearing loss.

The hearing aid that will work best for you depends on the kind and severity of your hearing loss. We at Hear India will guide you in selecting a hearing aid that best suits your needs and lifestyle. As you will be wearing your hearing aid regularly, so select one that is convenient and easy for you to use. Other features to consider include parts or services covered by the warranty, estimated schedule and costs for maintenance and repair, options and upgrade opportunities, and the hearing aid company’s reputation for quality and customer service.
